Allergy Times

The web's top source for allergy & asthma news and tips

Dear fellow allergy sufferer,

Welcome to my space on the web!

I've been dealing with many food allergies and environmental allergies for years, and for a long time, there were no resources out there. There was no way of finding peanut free or nut free products, and if you were allergic or had asthma, once you left the allergist ’s offce, you had to figure things out the coping part on your own.

And let’s not talk about allergy support groups. Most of them simply didn’t exist years ago. (Eventually, I was so frustrated with the lack of resources that I founded a local allergy support group myself. Leading it has helped me learn more about the kinds of things allergic individuals and families are interested in.)

In the 1990s, I bought my first EpiPen, soon, lo and behold, people were talking about food allergy! They were finally discussing things like proper food labeling and cross-contamination of allergens. I was no longer the only person I knew calling food manufacturers to ask about their allergen labeling and ingredient listings.

Thanks to the web, there are lots of resources out there now. Everything from hayfever and eczema advice to information on IgE and RAST testing, and peanut allergy coping tips! I've also read and used some amazing books on allergy and asthma.

But it's often hard to tell the allergy snake-oil salespeople from the real information, so I did a lot of research. I began to collect these allergy resources in my bookmarks folder, and found that when I used some of the allergy tips or products, my symptoms were under much better control. And of course, some of the things I tried didn't work at all.

Now, I'm putting these allergy news items and allergic tips on one website to make them available to anyone who might be interested.

Some of them are links to merchants like Amazon.com and other allergy vendors; this is simply the quickest and easiest way for me to list them. But I only list items that I have personal experience with, and that have worked for me. It's the only way I feel comfortable providing information.

Although there are no guarantees that something will work for you, I have a policy of not recommending questionable therapies for allergy and asthma. Too many sites out there promote "cure your allergies overnight" remedies, and a fair number of them range from being unethical to being potentially unsafe. There is, to date, no cure for allergy. However, there are things you can do to improve your symptoms and make it possible to breathe more easily again.

So, with that said, if it's a HEPA vacuum, a pet-shampoo or a review of perfume-free cosmetics you're looking for, this is your place, because I use them myself every single day.

If any of my news tips, articles, or reviews help you, please let me know! I'd love to hear from you. (Contact information is listed in the menu to the right.)

Read those ingredient listings, and stay allergy-safe!
